Valuation

We are independent and can therefore offer an unbiaised estimate of the value of an art work. Our approach to valuation combines not only our considerable expertise, but also the involvement of at least two teams which work independently one from another and provide an independent view to our clients which is free of any conflict of interest. This professional approach of valuing art allows us to offer a unique combination of considerable expertise, transparency and controlled risks for the benefits of clients.

We are independent because no auction house has a financial interest or shareholding in Baudot Private Office Ltd. Moreover, we have designed a multi-tiered valuation process which detects any potential conflict of interest and we offer high incentives for our experts to pool their knowledge, experience and research capabilities.

While the attributes used to value works of art and collectibles may vary from one type to another, we place the utmost importance on the following common criteria:

  • Authentication of authorship (includes authenticity);
  • Condition;
  • Rarity;
  • Historical importance;
  • Provenance;
  • Past exhibitions;
  • Size;
  • Medium;
  • Subject matter;
  • Fashion;
  • Quality;
  • Exit strategy.

The consideration of the exit strategy includes the assessment of the time, place and method of sale—private treaty vs. public auction.
